Canada's critical minerals strategy aims to quickly make the country a secure, sustainable, and reliable supplier for the global clean energy and digital transitions. This goal is driven by both the enormous economic potential, especially in the burgeoning EV battery sector, and the geopolitical need to diversify Western supply chains away from dominant suppliers. Federal and provincial governments are moving urgently to implement the Canadian Critical Minerals Strategy. The strategy focuses not only on resource extraction but strongly emphasizes closing the "midstream gap" by investing in domestic processing, refining, and manufacturing capabilities. The final objective is to create fully integrated, high-standard value chains, from mine to product, ensuring long-term energy and economic security for Canada and its allies.
